Sorry I didn't have a post last week. Our trainer's German Shepard had puppies!!! So, class was canceled.
We had our second class last night. Bailey is still having a blast. She loves it so much!
Tire - Jumps through with no problem
Hurdles - Jumps over with no problem
Tunnels - At first she wouldn't run through. Then I tossed a treat inside and she ran through it at full speed. No issues after that.
A Frame - Same as the tunnel. At first she was a little scared. After she got over her fear, she was running up and down with no issues.
Table - She loves it. The second we walk by she jumps up and automatically lays down. She wasn't laying down as fast as I'd like, but we will work on it.
Weaves - She hasn't quite figured it out yet. Our trainer said there's no trick to weaving, other than just practicing. She says it's much better to buy or make a set of weaves. It is something that should be practiced a few times a week.
See Saw - We just introduced this to Bailey. We were desensitizing her to the bang of the see saw. She is not very sound sensitive for a sheltie, so she wasn't too fazed by the bang. Then we had her run across it and lay down at the end and then I slowly dropped it. She did very well for her first time.
Dog Walk - we having tried it yet.
Chute - Also, haven't tried it yet.
Next Week.... our trainer wants us to take the dogs off leash and practice sequences. Basically, we have to run the dog using two of the equipments (jump and tunnel or A frame and tunnel, etc). I'm a little nervous. The field is not completely fenced in and Bailey has been trying to play with the other dogs. She is either going to see a squirrel and take off or run up to another dog. Probably the latter. Or maybe she'll surprise me and be a great doggie!
Since no one came to class with me this week, I have no videos to share. :( Here is an old video from when we were practicing "target". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPZQAz76G0g
We are still training target. This week I have been practicing distance with Bailey and getting her used to "target" on an angle.
Joe promised me he was going to build Bailey a jump, weaves and buy some wood to practice table and see saw on...we'll see about that! I'll just have to keep bugging him. Hopefully, he comes to class with me next week, so I can get some videos.
